When you need services outside MIT Medical/Lexington

Your primary care provider (PCP) can provide most of your care at MIT Medical/Lexington. But sometimes you may need services that are not available here. In those cases, you might be asked to make an appointment with a provider at MIT Medical/Cambridge, or your PCP may ask the MIT Health Plans Office to approve services outside of MIT Medical.

Services at MIT Medical/Cambridge

Lexington patients commonly receive certain services at MIT Medical/Cambridge, including:

  • Routine eye exams at MIT Medical’s Eye Service. (NOTE: Neither employee health plan covers visits to outside ophthalmologists for individuals who have PCPs at MIT Medical.)
  • Birth control visits and treatment of gynecological disorders at MIT Medical’s OB/GYN Service.
  • Mammograms and routine X-rays at MIT Medical’s Radiology Service. (Urgent X-rays are done at Beth Israel Deaconess Healthcare in Lexington, a five-minute drive from Lincoln Laboratory.)
  • Other specialty services as appropriate.

Services outside MIT Medical

When you need specialty services that are not available in Cambridge, your PCP will ask the MIT Health Plans Office to approve services outside of MIT Medical. Learn more:
