Our Occupational Medicine and Employee Health Service offers comprehensive consulting, treatment, and health-education services for work-related and environmental health issues. We also provide examinations, vaccinations, and immunity certifications for MIT employees.
The following services are available to the entire MIT community:
- Medical surveillance: In conjunction with the MIT Environment Health and Safety Office, we evaluate employees for fitness for duty (tower climbing, respirator use, confined spaces, animal care) and for work-related health concerns and possible exposures in work or residence at MIT (ergonomic stress, noise, chemicals, pathogens, animals, poor air quality, allergies). We also help with the care of work-related illness and injuries to facilitate the best recovery and to eliminate future hazards.
- Consulting services: We work with the MIT Environment Health and Safety Office to identify environmental or workplace issues that might be hazardous to the health of individuals or to the MIT community as a whole.
- Treatment services and worker’s compensation management: In conjunction with the staff of MIT Medical’s Urgent Care Service, we treat work-related injuries, including minor lacerations, contusions, strains and sprains, eye injuries, effects of chemical exposure, and repetitive strain injuries. We work with the MIT Human Resources Workers’ Compensation staff on injury-prevention and management strategies, documentation, and treatment monitoring.
- Education: We provide employee workshops and in-service training in the areas of blood-borne pathogens, ergonomics, and infection control. We can arrange additional workshops in response to MIT community needs or specific requests. Our service also performs regular health and safety visits to MIT Medical departments to verify compliance with federal regulations.
