Starting the process

Congratulations on your upcoming retirement. Let us walk you through what you’ll need to know as you get ready to leave MIT and begin your retirement years.

Getting started

The process begins six months before your planned retirement date. Start by downloading the helpful retirement checklist from MIT’s Human Resources (HR) office. You can also visit the Planning Retirement section of the HR website to learn about all things retirement, not just medical and health insurance issues.

Enrolling in Health Insurance

As an MIT retiree, you, your spouse or partner at the time of your retirement, and eligible dependents may choose to participate in one of MIT's health insurance plans. Visit MIT Benefits to learn about health plan options for MIT retirees.
