MIT offers health plans for
students,
affiliates, and
employees.
- Students: All undergraduate and graduate students have the MIT Student Medical Plan. It is included with tuition and allows you to use most services at MIT Medical at no additional charge. You can also buy the MIT Extended Insurance Plan, which covers prescriptions, hospital care, and other services outside of MIT Medical. Together, these plans meet insurance requirements for J-1 visa holders and “minimum essential coverage” requirements under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) for U.S. citizens and resident aliens.
- Affiliates: MIT Affiliates can purchase the MIT Affiliate Medical Plan and the MIT Extended Insurance Plan. The MIT Affiliate Medical Plan allows you to use most services at MIT Medical at no additional charge. The Extended Insurance Plan covers prescriptions, hospital care, and other services outside of MIT Medical. Together, these plans meet insurance requirements for J-1 visa holders and “minimum essential coverage” requirements under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) for U.S. citizens and resident aliens.
- Employees: MIT employees can choose the MIT Traditional Health Plan, the MIT Choice Plan, or the High Deductible Health Plan. The Traditional and Choice plans allow you to choose a primary care provider (PCP) at MIT Medical in Cambridge or Lexington. The High Deductible Health Plan does not require a PCP. All three plans also cover prescriptions, hospital care, and other services outside of MIT Medical and meet insurance requirements for J-1 visa holders and “minimum essential coverage” requirements under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) for U.S. citizens and resident aliens.
