Ordering prescription safety glasses at MIT Optical

  • Get approval from your supervisor or principal investigator (PI). If you don't have approval, MIT Optical will charge your credit card for part of the cost. To make sure MIT pays for your glasses, you need to complete the top two sections of the prescription eyeglasses order form — especially the cost object/general ledger account numbers.
  • Make sure your prescription is up to date. Your prescription can be from your own eye doctor or from MIT Health’s Optometry & Ophthalmology Service. But you can’t use a prescription that is more than two years old.
  • Be ready for your visit: Bring your prescription with you when you come.
  • Get your new safety glasses. We will let you know when your glasses are ready (usually 7–10 business days). When you come to pick up your glasses, we will have you try them on and make any necessary adjustments. You will need to sign for your new glasses at pickup.
