Incoming students may be covered by MIT insurance as early as August 1.
- Incoming first-year undergraduates are covered beginning on August 1. If you’re a new first-year undergraduate at MIT, you’ll be automatically enrolled in the MIT Student Medical Plan and the MIT Student Extended Insurance Plan beginning August 1. You will not be charged for Extended Plan coverage for the month of August. However, if you use your Extended Plan coverage during August, you will not be eligible to waive coverage for the fall term. Eligible students who have not used their Extended Plan coverage during August may waive coverage for the academic year by completing and submitting the waiver by August 31.
- Incoming graduate students and transfer students may purchase the MIT Student Medical Plan and the MIT Student Extended Insurance Plan for themselves and eligible family members for the month of August by checking the “Early Arrival” box on the enrollment form for the upcoming school year (which will be posted online by the first week of July each year). The fee will be billed to your student account.
