If you have the MIT Affiliate Medical Plan…
With the MIT Affiliate Medical Plan you can use most services at MIT Medical with no copay and no additional charge. This includes:
If you are sick or hurt and need to see a clinician right away, you can come to MIT Medical’s walk-in Urgent Care Service (8 a.m.–8 p.m.) without an appointment, but if you want to bring your child to Urgent Care, you must call first (617-253-4481), because not all Urgent Care providers can treat children.
If you also have the MIT Affiliate Extended Insurance Plan…
You will use the MIT Affiliate Extended Insurance Plan when you need care outside of MIT Medical—anything from physical therapy to MRIs to emergency room visits or hospital stays. We can help you find the right specialists and make appointments, and we can answer your questions about what is covered.
The Extended Plan also covers some additional services at MIT Medical, like annual eye exams and certain vaccines, like HPV. With the Extended Plan, you may also fill your prescriptions at the MIT Pharmacy, located on the first floor of MIT Medical.
If you don't have either MIT Affiliate Health Plan…
When you need medical care, you will have to find doctors and hospitals in the Cambridge area that accept your insurance. Often, you will have to pay for the services first, and then ask your insurance company to reimburse part of the expenses.
If you are sick or hurt and need to see a clinician right away, you can come to MIT Medical’s walk-in Urgent Care Service (8 a.m.–8 p.m.), but we will send you a bill for the visit and any treatment you receive. Your insurance may or may not reimburse you for part of the cost of an Urgent Care visit. That is why it is so important for you to understand exactly what your insurance will cover BEFORE you need care.
If you don’t have an Affiliate Health Plan, you can still use the MIT Medical services that are open to all members of the MIT community. You can get a flu shot every year. You and your family members can take Community Wellness classes and participate in other Community Wellness programs. Your spouse or partner can participate in many activities through MIT Spouses & Partners Connect.
