Phlebotomist-Clinical Lab Assistant

PHLEBOTOMIST-CLINICAL LAB ASSISTANTMIT Medical, to collect and process clinical specimens and perform point-of-care tests in the medical laboratory for use in clinical or medical testing, transfusions, donations, or research. Results are used for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Will perform therapeutic phlebotomy as requested by providers and other clinicians; perform diverse functions in the areas of pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical processes, including collecting and processing specimens for testing and dispatch; maintain, operate, and troubleshoot all equipment needed to perform said laboratory tests, ensuring that manufacturer procedures and protocols are always followed in order to achieve Joint Commission or other Credentialing and Regulatory Body approvals; manage a variety of administrative duties to support the laboratory technicians by preparing, documenting, and maintaining databases associated with laboratory testing procedures; and perform duties related to information processing, training, and quality control within the laboratory. 

REQUIRED: Phlebotomist certification from a recognized accredited institution; Massachusetts license with no constraints; certification from a recognized agency (ASCP-American Society for Clinical Pathology preferred); proficiency employing arm/hand steadiness; ability to distinguish colors for assays, e.g., reading urine dipsticks; ability to multitask, pay attention to fine details, prioritize, return to functions performed before an interruption, work as part of a team, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; adhere to safety guidelines; proficiency with basic computer functions, including MS Office; knowledge of and experience using a variety of phlebotomy equipment; and excellent documentation skills. Job #21813-4

Working conditions: long periods of standing or walking; remaining in uncomfortable positions such as bending; pushing, pulling, or lifting objects weighing up to 20 pounds; and potential exposure to body fluids, hazardous waste materials, poisonous substances, dust, chemicals, bodily injuries, loud or unpleasant noises, electrical hazards, and electromagnetic radiation as in CRTs (VDTs).
