Reports to: Manager, Technology Relationship Management

This role will be part of the Medical Informatics and Population Health team. This team is currently working on innovative AI solutions and this role will play a large part in training, updating content and participating in projects that involve integrating these solutions with our current Practice Management/EMR application.

Position Overview: 

The Patient Access Training Specialist is responsible for the design, development, and delivery of Practice Management (PM) training courses to support all administrative operations that utilize MIT Medical’s Electronic Health Record System, Cerner. Additionally, this position may conduct training to support the proper utilization of Clinic  Ancillary  Platforms.  This may include applications that support registration, scheduling, patient check-in, and call routing. Methods of instruction will include small group classroom training, one on one coaching, and online training platforms. The Patient Access Training Specialist will design and deliver PM training to all new hires and will design a curriculum to support ongoing learning for all patient service representatives, nurses, medical assistants, and other Cerner users who do not perform as a provider.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Design, development, and delivery of new hires and ongoing refresher training.
  • Creation and management of skills assessments.
  • Manage training follow-up with learners.
  • Development and ongoing maintenance of instructional material (e.g., eLearning, job aids, instructor-led content, etc.).
  • Develops training content and/or program(s) that includes determining the best delivery method, media, and documentation to be presented. Coordinates development of said training materials using a variety of formats including but not limited to self-paced eLearning, webinar, classroom, job aids, etc.
  • Design a curriculum specific to role (i.e. patient service representatives, nurses, and medical assistants) based on required competencies. Develop competency testing to be administered as a component of each learning activity.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify information such as product functionality, training approach, documentation, scheduling and milestones.
  • Partner and collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to identify training needs and gaps.
  • Obtain and maintain a deep understanding of system workflows.
  • Perform ongoing quality audits of completed work and utilization of audit tools and reports to identify needs/trends.
  • Primary liaison between IS and user as it pertains to system uses. 
  • Training analytics and quality improvement.
  • Special training projects for new and existing systems as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Education and Experience:

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience
  • Years of experience
    • 4 years of related experience in an ambulatory care environment
  • Ability to acquire, synthesize, and communicate complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences
  • Effective presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to adjust to frequent changes in duties and work volume
  • Skills and abilities
    • Cerner experience preferred but will consider other Revenue Cycle/Practice Management applications
    • Comfortable training in a hybrid environment using tools such as zoom
    • Experience with adult learning in the development of training programs
    • Experience with learning management systems (LMS) and e-learning tools or willingness to learn
