Guidance for campus managers/employees who are aware of a person with exposure/possible exposure to an individual with confirmed COVID-19
- Speak with the individual directly, either in person or by phone.
- Get a brief description of the situation, including the date and location of the contact.
- Write down the individual’s full name, phone number, and the town they live in.
- Show concern and empathy.
- Let the individual go home, or advise them to stay at home. Ask them not to disclose their situation to fellow employees at this time.
- Tell them to attest on Covid Pass that they had an exposure. A clinician from MIT Medical will call them shortly to follow up.
- Advise the individual to call their primary care provider’s office for advice. An individual’s personal primary care provider will know their health history and can provide the most appropriate advice. If their primary care provider is at MIT Medical, tell them to call our Primary Care team at 617-258-9355. Do NOT send them to MIT Medical directly. All patients must make an appointment first.
- Out of respect for the privacy of the potentially affected individual, please do not disclose the issue to others in your work area until you have received advice regarding the public health risks of the situation.
- Once we know the facts, we will provide a public health risk assessment and recommendations.
Things to remember:
- MIT Medical will make every effort to provide answers and guidance as quickly as possible.
- It is important to show concern and empathy when speaking with people involved in the case.
- Transparency is important, but we also need to consider the individual’s right to privacy. When it is time to communicate openly about a particular case, we should try to reassure without increasing anxiety.
